  • Brown chicken on all sides 3–4 minutes per side, set aside

Preparing the Broth

  • Combine cream of chicken soup, onion, garlic powder, carrots, and water in a bowl

  • Return chicken to Dutch oven, pour broth mixture over chicken

  • Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 30 minutes until chicken is cooked through

Preparing and Cooking the Dumplings

  • Mix Bisquick, milk, sage, and Italian seasoning until a soft dough forms, do not overmix

  • Drop small pieces of dough evenly across the top of the simmering chicken, do not stir

  • Simmer uncovered 7–10 minutes until dumplings are cooked through

If Using Coals: Place 16 coals on the lid in a ring around the edge and 8 coals on the bottom in a checkerboard pattern.

Serve: Spoon chicken, broth, and dumplings into bowls and serve immediately while hot.

Doubling for Larger Groups: Use a second 12-inch Dutch oven and repeat the full recipe. Both ovens can cook simultaneously over separate heat sources.

Side Salad Suggestion: A simple green salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and your choice of dressing pairs well and helps round out the meal for larger groups.
