Pinery Creek dispersed camping on FR 42C near Onion Saddle in the Chiricahua Mountains offers one of the most rewarding off-the-beaten-path camp experiences in southeastern Arizona — cliff views at 6,160 feet, a cold clear creek for swimming, an Acorn Woodpecker granary tree right in camp, and the kind of solitude that only comes from finding a place most people drive past.

Wild Horses, Wildflowers & a Sobering Reality on Forest Road 124

Forest Road 124 in Arizona's Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest is a hidden gem for wildlife lovers. We watched wild horses roam freely through the pines, spotted a White-breasted Nuthatch, and took in sweeping forest views surrounded by wildflowers. It was a beautiful morning — until a heartbreaking discovery on the drive out reminded us why protecting Arizona's wildlife matters. Watch the full video and read on.
